Goals of Kurdish Women’s Library

The Kurdish Women’s Library, Archive and Research Center aims to influence the present, to have a place in women’s lives, and to work for a future that will be built on the basis of women’s freedom. In this respect, although we have mentioned some of the goals we set at the beginning here, these goals can be renewed and expanded in line with the needs of the time.

  1. To be a fluid, dynamic platform where the works of women who produce in literature, art, academia, politics, philosophy, science and many other fields are gathered to discuss their ideas, researches are carried out, and the cultural and material heritage and memory of women are recorded and shared.
  2. To create a corpus of oral history about Kurdish women and women of other peoples living in this geography, from the narratives of women who live strongly in Kurdish culture, especially in the villages, to the chests of our grandmothers, and from tales to songs.
  3. To provide a pool for collecting and archiving the research, cultural, literary and scientific productions of women – especially the women of Kurdistan living in four parts of Kurdistan and all over the world – and personal archives such as diaries. To create collections available to researchers.
  4. To reveal the data on the history of Kurdish women, who have been deprived of their history until now, to make them accessible and protect them to transfer to future generations.
  5. To gather information and documents on women’s organizations, institutions and organizational experiences that have been active in Kurdistan in the past and present, and to ensure that the experience and knowledge gained are accessible to everyone.
  6. To ensure the flow of documents to the Center’s collections by keeping in constant contact with non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and individuals in the center’s area of interest, especially women’s organizations and institutions.
  7. To create a network where women from all parts of Kurdistan and academics, writers, artists and intellectual women from all over the world meet.
  8. To be in contact with and exchange information with libraries, research and information centers all around the world that share the same goals.
  9. To organize conferences, panels, reading days, open sessions and exhibitions within the library, to make women’s voices heard and to carry out studies that raise women’s awareness.
  10. To enable digitization of printed works to create digital studies and open access digital resources to ensure that the information and documents collected within the library and archive are accessible to everyone.
