Fetane Walidi

Fetane Walidi was born in 1953 in the city of Sine, in Eastern Kurdistan. She is one of the most famous singers in Sine and Eastern Kurdistan. Her father, Mohammed Sharif Walidi, was a famous singer in Sine.

Fetane had a talent for singing at a young age. When she was still in elementary school, at the age of seven, she was discovered by her teachers, and she often recited songs and poems at school parties. For this reason, her teachers entered into a conversation with her family and wanted to discuss Fetane’s artistic future…

She is truly unique and this artistic side of her is seen very early by her teachers and her surroundings. For her, her parents are told that their daughter is talented in this area and needs help. Therefore, they need to be supportive of Fetane and be there at all times. This was also because at that time and due to social traditions, very few families allowed their daughters to engage in artistic activities, especially singing. Of course, in the following years, the Iranian regime would also have a negative impact on her situation and her singing. But she was different from everyone else, her voice and tone were full of spirit and emotion!

She began singing while still a teenager, with the help of artists and Sine Radio, and sang many valuable and great works. In this way, the voice of this female artist spread to many parts of the country in a short time, and this voice and art still have a special importance and place among the Kurdish people. Her songs are considered beautiful and memorable songs.

Fetane Walidi studied at the Higher Conservatory of Music and completed her education in the art department in Tehran. She also learned to play the tar from teacher Elizadeh.

Fetane also worked as a children’s program presenter on Tehran Radio for about three years and assisted many well-known artists of the time. However, after a while, she fell ill and returned to her village of Hasan Abad, near the city of Sine, where she lived. She had a clear, beautiful, and vibrant voice. Just as she had attracted the attention of many artists and music teachers in her youth, in later years many people would admire her singing and music, many would be amazed by her talent.

She sang many songs, but some of her most famous and famous songs are; “Sabrî gul firush”, “Aman şirn giyan”, “Ey yarê nazdari”, “Dîdeye giryan”, “Li ser kanî”, “Layê layê”. Of course, she would not only sing these songs. Over time, Fetane Walidi would sing countless songs and leave her mark on the oriental music of the country.

Of course, it is important to say that she stepped into the world of music with the song “Sebrî gul firush”. The songs of this Kurdish woman artist are still listened to many times after so many years and are among those songs that will never be forgotten. Those songs are loaded with the spirit and soul of a woman, with her feelings that give a different color to Kurdish songs and melodies. They add beauty and take one to a sea of emotions with every melody.

Fetane gets married at the age of 21 and this marriage leads to a serious break in her spirit. For her sake, she will ride a horse to the river of loneliness and calm down on the shores of the sea. She will bathe herself in the fragments of half-finished songs and hold people in her chest.

There are few women, artists like Fetane Welidi in Kurdistan, few voices and melodies like this… That sea of emotions, the sound of Kurdish songs and the rebellion of words! But now all the words are broken and buried in her chest. They cry and cry, they complain about the unfortunate period…

When we look at it today, outside her clear and sharp voice, no one talks about her anymore, no one asks about her, and even if she is sick, many people do not know if she is alive or not!

For years, Fetane has been crying and crying in her lonely corners, but no one hears her voice, nor does anyone pay attention to the sound of her cries that rises from the East of the country to the North, South and West of the country.

For years, Fetane has been living in poverty in the village of Hesen Abad, a village in the Sine Valley, in the midst of this era. She lived in a very poor situation, with almost no means of making a living. She is so sick that she cannot even go to the doctor. In fact, she became very sick, she had no strength left, but she did not have the opportunity or means to get medicine!

She devoted her young age to Kurdish art and music, but unfortunately, because no one cared for her and no one cares for her today, she lives in sorrow and loneliness. On September 26, 2024, Fetane Walidi passed away in her loneliness.
