Nermin Osman (Narmin Othman) was born in 1948. Her family belonged to the Kurdish Peshmerga who fought against Saddam Hussein. Her uncle and brother were executed. Her husband (Daro Sheikh Noori) was imprisoned and tortured for 5 years. She and her husband emigrated to Sweden in 1984 and returned to Iraq in 1992. Her husband was a member of the PUK politburo and died in 2004, the same year she was offered a post in the national government. She still works in the Kurdish Autonomous Region as a politician and writer.
